business or professional titles

business or professional titles

Capitalize the title before a name, lowercase afterward. Marketing Director Joe Smith. Joe Smith, marketing director. Careful when attributing a quote to a titled person:

Mattel President Jane Doe says…
Mattel's president, Jane Doe, says…

See the difference? "Mattel President Jane Doe" is the full titled person. "Mattel's president, Jane Doe" is the same as "Jane Doe, Mattel's president."

I've steered away from pop-culture nonsense for this entry because, unfortunately, there is no such title as Sith Lord in the real world. "We plan on starting up a children's products division this fall to help bring choking hazards back to the marketplace," Sith Lord Darth Vader explained while sucking on his asthma medication.
