Style Guide of Common Errors in English Grammar for Writers
none

none

'None' means 'not one.' "None of the G.I. Joe members is going to the Cobra picnic." It should be singlar, right? Not one. Singular. Unfortunately, common usage damns us again. When used with plural nouns, such as 'members,' then the verb takes the plural. "None of the G.I. Joe members are going to the Cobra picnic." Both sentences are correct. What is one to do? Be consistent in your writing, hope for the best and refer them to this site when someone questions your pristine sentences.
