Style Guide of Common Errors in English Grammar for Writers
principal, principle

principal, principle

Back in third grade--or was it fourth grade--eh, whatever grade it was when one learns these things, I learned that the school principal is my pal. I've never forgotten it, so it must be an effective mnemonic. As an adjective, 'principal' means the highest in importance. In finance, the principal is the capital sum as distinguished from the interest.

A principle is a law or rule.
