Style Guide of Common Errors in English Grammar for Writers

to, too, two

We all know 'two' refers to the number, right? We don't really need to get into that, do we? 'To' and 'too' is where the trouble starts.

Luke wanted to go to the Tachi Station to pick up some power converters. Uncle Owen, knowing this was a cheap teen code word for 'heroin,' kept his smack-addicted ass on the moisture farm. Aunt Beru smiled wistfully in the kitchen. "I want to get some 'power converters,' too," she thought. "Mama needs her fix!"

Look at the first sentence. 'To' is used twice, first as part of the infinitive 'to go' and as a preposition. 'Too' is used as a synonym for 'also.' It can also mean a degree of excess.

C3P0 was talking too much, so Luke shot him in the face.

It's easy to remember. 'Too' has two Os. 'Too' has more Os than 'to.' Anything to do with more (like also or excess) gets the extra 'o.' Kinda like desert, dessert.
